As we learned about the Declaration of Independence, the grievance about slavery: “He has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life & liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating & carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither.” was removed. It is said that Thomas Jefferson was furious with this decision, even though he was a slave owner himself. Jefferson was said to have been upset about this until his death.
