We viewed the scene from The Lion King that depicts Mufasa’s death, Mufasa’s ghost, Simba and Nala fight.
Respond to 1 or both of the following questions by leaving a comment or respond to a previous comment to get a discussion going.
- How does this scene depict a state of nature?
- What does Mufasa’s ghost symbolize? Explain. Be a fact-finder and use your YELLOW packet.

Jack and Scar are like a 2-in-1 deal. They are so, very close to the same. Jack becomes a tyrant for the boys on the island and rules by force. He deprives everyone of their natural rights the same way that Scar does.
The character Piggy in the movie, Lord of the Flies, reminds me of Raficki from Lion King. In a way they are very similar even though Raficki is an animal and is animated while Piggy is a person and filmed as a person. They are both the symbols of wisdom and logic in each of their movies. In The Lion King, Raficki, spoke confusing, yet wise words to Simba, and Piggy speaks with logic to the other boys. This is why Raficki reminds me of Simba.
Mufasa’s ghost in the Lion king was not a real ghost. He was a figment do Simba’s imagination, or more accurately of his conscience. It was then that he realized that he was wrong not to go back and that he must go back. His conscience told him that the right thing to do would be to go back and save all of the other animals, just as Mufasa would have done.
The scene where Mufasa dies shows a state of nature. He was the king by a social contract that the other animals had made. When he was killed there was a state of nature because nobody had their rights being protected by law and order any longer. After that, Scar took over as a tyrant. This was bad news for all of the animals except the hyenas because with the hyenas’ help Scar took away all of the animal’s natural rights. All of these bad events were an effect of a state of nature. I hope that I will never have to live in a state of nature.
