  1. History matters because it can help. It can help because it helps you learn from the past and help you for the future. Also it tells you about what happened in the past that changed the world. This is why history matters.

  2. History matters because without we can’t not remember what can happen to us. It is just like in 911. We need this so if something happens we pervent it from happening again

  3. History matters because thisis how we find out about everything in our past. History helps us understand about how people lived many years ago. Also we need to learn about our world before we lived in it. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check spacing before posting.)

  4. History matters because we can learn about our past and learn from it. We can learn from other people’s mistakes and realize how much one action can change the world. History is important because we can learn so much more.

  5. History matters because we need to to learn from the past. If we learn from the past then we can prevent certain events from occurring in the future. I think everyone should remember the past, it’s important to learn from other’s mistakes!

  6. History matters because we can learn from our mistakes. The past should mean something to us. Like Rafiki said, you can choose to learn from your/other’s mistakes and change the future. (Ms. D. note: I LOVE the Raificki connection! 😀 )

  7. History matters to me because it tells what happened in the past. It tells us what were good things and bad things. We also can learn more about our family from history. We can learn what our ancestors did for a living and what there life was like. (Ms. D note: Don’t forget to add your class period.)

  8. I think history matters because if we forget what happened in the past we can’t learn from our mistakes. I also think history matters because if we couldn’t remember our ancestors and what they did for us. We need to remember them so that we have wisdom for if we don’t know what to do if we need to think about what happend in the past to help the decision. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check sentence structure and spelling before posting. Don’t forget to add your class period and only use your first name. Let’s keep it safe. 🙂 )

  9. History matters because without it, people wouldn’t have any clue to what has happened in this world. There would be no science or anything along those lines, because we need to know what has happened in this world, such as how the land evolved and evolution of Humans. We also need history so we can remember important events that happens long ago in the past, such as wars. That is only a few reasons that we as Humans need history.

  10. History is very important to us and the world. It teaches us to not repeat mistakes made already and saves us from possible disasters. History teaches us new things that we haven’t known about ourselves and leads us to a possible better future.

  11. History is extremely important and it’s good to see that it can be related to so many things in our world. The videos in the presentation were a funny way to show that history matters. If we didnt have history it would be difficult for everything to progress and evolve into something better like us people have. We had to learn from our past to change our futures. (Ms. D note: Don’t forget to add your class period.)

  12. History matters because it shapes us into what we are today. Any little thing can have a big affect on the future. Which is a lot like the saying “what you do today will affect what you do tomorrow”.

  13. History matters because it defines who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. History tells true stories, real Heros, real villains, and real adventures. History is a mystery. Helps us understand the past, present, and future. (Ms. D note: This is copied directly from the notes. Refer to your “How to Post a Quality Comment” checklist and resubmit.))

  14. History matters because without it we would never have known anything about what our ancestors did a long time ago. We would never have known about the discoveries they made during there time period. We learn from there mistakes and we learn how to improve our life using what they knew and what we know now. I personally didn’t think history matters because everything that we write down or create, is only there for an understanding. We dont know if we are right because there was know one there to tell us that, when the night comes it’s time to sleep or when the sun comes out it’s time to wake up and work. So personally I think history dose matter but isn’t fully true. I appreciate that this is a place where I can express these things here.

  15. I think history matters because we need to learn from it. If somebody made a mistake in the past, we have to learn from that so it never happens again. If we did not learn about our history, we would keep repeating our mistakes when we could be preventing them.

  16. History matters because it tells us about our past and how we learned and acted. It also tells us who lived in the past and how they lived. Plus history matters because it shows the mistakes we did in the past so when we learn about history we now know what not to do.

  17. Dear Mrs.D,
history matters because it tells us about the past. It also matters because it will help us have a better and brighter future. Also, to help us not make the same mistakes that we made in the past.

  18. I think in any situation history does matter. The reason why I think it matters is because if we are trying to prove something then we need to look back on what are evidence could be. If we are trying to prove WW11 (which is real) we need to look back on some history of that time period. History matters because it can effect on our present decision on anything. (Ms. D note: Don’t forget to add your class period to get credit.)

  19. Dear class, History does mater! History really does matter because if we didn’t have history we wouldn’t see the world around us. There wouldn’t be airplanes, food, cars and lots of other things so History really does matter. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check spelling before posting.)

  20. Dear Ms. D
History is important because it happens to teach us all the events that happened in the past. It let’s us learn from the different mistakes that each person had made. We need to have history in the future so those people can learn from our mistakes.

  21. Dear class,
History matters in many ways that you do not think about much. Such as when you were little and you touched a hot pot. Then when your older you know not to touch it. The more you know of the past the better prepared you are for the present. (Ms. D note: This is a great connection to self and to Simba and Raificki!)

  22. I think history matters because it teaches us about the past and their life. Without history no one could learn about their past and the worlds past. If we didn’t learn history. Bad things In history would repeat it self. No one wants history to repeat it self. Also we need history to keep us moving forward, because history teaches us about mistakes so we can fix them. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check spelling and word usage – “it self”- before posting.)

  23. Humans Need History! Humans need history so nothing had happens in the past that was bad. For example, when U.S.A droped the Adom Bomb on Japan it was terrible because it killed many people that were not included with the war. So with history we know to never do it ever again. Humans need history in order to stay alive. We need history. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check spelling before posting.)

  24. History is a very important part of our world. History matters because without it, we wouldn’t be able to know what happened in our past. We wouldn’t be able to learn from the mistakes made and we’d most likely make those mistakes over, and over again. History is a way to look back at achievements and mistakes made by people in the past. We can look at their actions, and see what we would’ve done or what they could’ve done better. This way, we could tell right from wrong and be able to tell how this affected our past and might still affect our future. So obviously, if we don’t pay attention to those thoughts and actions, we will never learn to grow and evolve.

  25. History is the story of us. It shows where we have been and where we are heading! It also has storys of heros villains and adventures. It helps us under sand the past present and future.

  26. History matters because it says if the scorce a secondary or primary source. History helps us learn from the past successes or failure. That is why history matters, we all need history! (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check spelling before posting. Don’t forget to include your class period to get credit.)

  27. The reason history matters is that history is the story of us. It is what tells the facts about our ancestors, and true heroes and villains. To sum it all up, history is a mystery waiting to be solved. It holds the truth of our past, our present, and our future.

  28. Dear mrs. D
History is what made us who we are today.
History matters because it teaches us what to Learn from. For example , the twin towers. The twin towers was a lesson learned. Ever since that, airports have much better security and marshals on the plane. There are also many other reasons why history. (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check capitalization and sentence structure before posting.)

  29. Dear Mrs. D
History matters because u need to learn about thing in the past. If we didn’t have history then we wouldn’t be able to fix thing today that happened bad in the past (Ms. D note: Strive for accuracy and check capitalization and punctuation before posting. Don’t use text message language.)

  30. History is important because it can tell us about the past. Also it can help us learn what to do in the future. History tell the stories of my and other people life and we are history.

  31. History matters because if there were no history we could not learn from our mistakes. History is how we learn to make the future better then the past. Our past is like our foundation to our future we have to learn how to make our building tall and sturdy better than the one before. History does matter.

  32. Why history matters. History matters because it teaches us about our past. We learn from the mistakes we made during wars and make sure the mistakes don’t happen again.

  33. History is important for many reasons. One reason history is important is because it teaches about the past. Another reason is history is the story of us. It defines us… who we are… where we’ve been and where we’re going.

  34. History does matter. History does matter because if we never look back on past events in the world bad things might happen. For example if we never learned and looked back on WWII then it could happen again.

  35. Hey Ms.D!
History matters for many reasons such as, learning from our mistakes, deciding where the world is going. History is who we are and how we became who we are. History defines our heritage and gives us a purpose to the decisions we make today. This is what I don’t understand, people say that we have learned from our History. How is that true though? I mean, the U.S is still at war with Afganistan, in Africa, Joseph Kony is living life like Adolph Hitler was in the 1940’s-1950’s. People in the world seem to be remembering History rather than learning from it. So do people really “learn” from history?

  36. History does matter. It helps us make better decisions. That’s why history is important. It’ll help us stop something like another holocaust from happening. It’ll help us stop another 911 from happening. If we didn’t pay attention to history these things would happen over and over again.

  37. Dear Mrs. D,
History matters to me because social studies teaches us about our past. We cannot forget our past so we can use what we did in the past to help our future. Social studies allows us to learn about events before our lifetime so we know what we have done in the past. This is why I think history matters.

  38. Dear Mrs. D,
Many people believe that history doesn’t matter. I know that it does matter. History helps people learn the past so that we can prepare for the future. Without history people would repeat the same mistakes they have in the past. History is definitely very important.

  39. Hi mrs. d I think the video was a good learning experience. It really showed stuff I had learned but forgot about. History is really important and you showed me why. I never realized how history is incoporated into so many things. Thanks for showing the video.

  40. Hi Mrs. D, A pop culture reference is when on the Simpsons, Lisa found a diary from a young girl in the 1800’s. It relates to history because in it it was describing the girls life and about the civil rights and how her family was a part of the under ground rail road.

  41. Dear mrs.d-
All these videos on the packet is really helpful. I think it’s really helpful because it shows why history does matter. Watching these videos really help me understand more. I learned so much more in about 2 days then I thought I would have learned in a week!! I love watching these videos. There entertaining and fun! Who would’ve known that learning could be this fun!!! 🙂

  42. Dear Ms.D, I hope after this class I like history because I never really did before. If we didn’t have history nothing would be the same because we would not have any mistakes in the past about our mistakes. I am starting to see how important history is and I hope throughout the year I continue to like history more.

  43. Here is a pop culture connection I have!

There is an cartoon I watch called Hetalia. Basically, the show’s characters are all based off of the countries of the world. It is mainly about WW11, because there are the Allies and the Axis Powers. It is very humorous, yet it teaches a lot about the subject. It is very popular, so it’s great so many people of all ages can learn about the subject, while still being entertained!

  44. Dear Mrs.D,
This slideshow in class reminded me of the Lorax. You had parts in it that showed movie clips. I think another great movie clip you could add in could be from the Lorax. The Lorax has a great message that cutting down trees is bad and can lead to a horrible world were you have to buy air. I think the slide show was great and very informational. Thank you for posting it on the conch.

  45. Here’s a quick Hunger Games Mockingjay example of a small decision making a big impact:

The one decision by the District 13 leaders to evacuate everyone to the underground saved everyone in the city from being killed by Capitol’s missiles.

  46. Dear Ms. D you,re right history does matter. It’s in or Iives every day you see it every where everything you see is or because of history. if we forgetcabout history, about the past we won’t have any way to a better and brighter future.

  47. Hi Mrs. D! I’m posting a comment and I don’t know what to write, so I’m going to type up my response from last night…never mind. I’m running out of time. Bye.

  48. Hi Aaron,

Thank you for posting Pop Culture connections! The examples are relevant and share your understanding with the class. You also used several habits of mind including, “Strive For Accuracy” and “Questioning.” Well done!

  49. Two examples of how one action can change the world

    1. In the Lorax ,the Onceler cuts down a tree and the Lorax warns him but he does not listen and ends up cutting down all all the trees and years later all of that was replaced by plastic and bottled air.

    2. In The Simpson Movie, Homer dumps pig waste into the Springfield water supply and he traps them all in a dome and everyone turns on him. Also with that action the government decides to bomb Springfield. Then Homer saves the day and restores balance to Springfield.
